After a two hour and twenty five minute closed session, Dr. Sylvia Martinez was selected as the interim superintendent for the West Orange Cove Consolidated Independent School District.

When the board reconvened board member moved to elect Dr. Martinez as the interim superintendent. The second was made by Eric Mitchell. Board member Bryan Thomas Muhammad commented that more information was needed before a decision was made.

Board president Pete Amy called for a vote. The vote passed with Amy, Hancock, Mitchell, and Sarah Jefferson-Simon voting for Dr. Martinez, with Muhammad dissenting.

Amy stated after the meeting that the deadline for submission of applications for superintendent is January 16. The board will then begin the process of evaluating the applications and interviewing candidates with the goal of hiring the new superintendent by April 1, 2015.
