Mary Ann Retherford Coon, 83, of West Orange, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, at her daughter’s home in West Orange.

Born Oct. 17, 1931 in Woodville to Richard T. Retherford and Beulah Mae (Windham) Retherford, she lived in Orange for 75 years, she was a member of the West Orange Christian Church.

She was a homemaker.

Mary was a lady who always put others above herself; she served her family well as well as those who were a guest in her home.

She was a person of many talents, she was a seamstress, she made clothes and quilts and enjoyed cooking.

Her family will fondly remember her chicken and dumplings as well as her canning of jellies and preserves.

Mary along with her husband, Pete took great pride in the care of their yard.

They received many awards for having the most beautiful yard in the community.

Mary’s favorite flowers were roses and daylilies.

She also enjoyed bowling.Mary is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Pete Coon; sister Larue Collier and her brothers, Charles Retherford and Gene Retherford.

Those who will most cherish her memory are her daughters, Anna LeJune and husband, Sherrill of Orange, Kathy Vessell and Vickie Smith and husband, Mike, all of West Orange; son, David Coon and wife, Susan of Fort Smith, Ar .; sister, Mamie Mitchell of Orange; brother, Thomas R. Retherford of Hemphill; grandchildren, Amy LeJune, Jeff LeJune, Amanda Gardovsky and husband, Lathon and Blake Peveto; two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.Services to remember and honor Mary’s life will be at 11:00 AM Monday, Jan. 19, in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange, with the Rev. Bobby Granger, officiating.

Rite of committal and interment will follow services, where she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Autumn Oaks Memorial Park in Orange.

Honoring Mary as pallbearers are Jeff LeJune, Blake Peveto, Ray Cooper, Robert Brown, Sherrill LeJune, Mike Smith and Lathon Gardovsky.

Mary’s family wishes to thank the caring staff at Harbor Hospice and her caregivers and nurses, LaDawn, Alicia and Yvette.
