Freezing rain expected early this week

The National Weather Service is expecting two rounds of freezing rain. The first round will occur late tonight, after midnight in central Louisiana.

The second round of freezing rain will occur Monday evening into Tuesday morning. The freezing rain will extend as far south as the I-10 corridor from Beaumont to Lake Charles and Lafayette, and could extend a little further south towards the coast. Ice accumulations are forecast to be around one tenth of an inch in east Texas and central Louisiana, and less than one then of an inch along the I-10 corridor. This will result in widespread hazardous driving conditions across the entire region Monday night into Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are currently forecast to warm up into the 40s by Tuesday afternoon, and the ice should melt by that time frame.
