E. Marie Stephenson, 91, of Orange, went to meet her Heavenly Father Tuesday, March 3, in Houston. She was born Aug. 11, 1923, in Mauriceville, to Earl and Grace Peveto.

Marie was the oldest of five children. She went to school and fell in love with her beloved husband, Ed D. Stephenson, in high school. She graduated from Mauriceville High School. When Ed later joined the Army they were wed. After the war, they settled in the Little Cypress area. During her 59 year union to her childhood sweetheart and lifetime partner, two daughters were born, Nedra and Donna. Both Ed and Marie were avid church goers and supporters of Little Cypress ISD school activities. She was a member of Little Cypress Baptist Church. Marie was a homemaker who was active in the PTA, taught Sunday School, and was later employed at Weingartners’s when her daughters were older.

She is survived by daughters, Nedra Williams and husband, David of Pilot Point, and Donna Stephenson and partner, Marge Adams, of Houston; grandchildren, Ed Williams and wife, Cheryl, Kaye Lakin and husband, Kenneth, Corporal Jack Williams and wife, Carlee, Christopher Williams, Elise Vergara and husband, Victor, and Alex Williams; two great grandchildren, Jamie and Leo; two devoted sisters, Doris and Ann and numerous loving and attentive nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Joe and sister, Bonnie.

A special thanks would like to be extended to the staff at Tranquility Personal Care Home in Houston who provided love and care in a family environment to Marie and her family during her stay.

The visitation will be Friday, March 6, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 am, Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Jett Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Ed Williams, US Marines Corporal Jack R. Williams, Erick Ekbladh, Bruce Martin, Dave Williams, Randy Hebert, Grady Bennett and Harold Whitton.
