Helen Olene Porterfield, 87, of Orange, passed away June 17, at The Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation in Orange.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 20, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City. Officiating will be Chaplain John Mooney. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m., Saturday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.

Born in Sidney, Ar., Feb. 10, 1928, she was the daughter of Ethan Elbert Story and Bernice (Montgomery) Story. Helen worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Hill in Bridge City for many years. She was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and an Eastern Star. She loved to bake, garden, and to cook. She was most famous for her pickles and her jelly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Henry Porterfield, Jr.; daughter, Beverly Ann Porterfield; grandson, Jake Allen Porterfield and sister, Thayer Sawrie.

She is survived by her children, Henry Ray Porterfield of Hemphill, Hal Wade Porterfield and wife, April of Bridge City and Hugh Roy Porterfield of Katy; grandchildren, Christy Bradley and husband, Steven, Chad Porterfield and William Porterfield; five great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson and her brother-in-law, C.R. Sawrie.
