James Sweet

The Celebration of Life for Mr. James R. Sweet will be Wednesday, June 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Sparrow Funeral Home. Interment will be at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. He died June 17, at Orange Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

James Rudolph Sweet was born in Many, LA to Tessie Lee Brown and Elijah Sweet. He was an only child and lived in Many until the age of 12. His family moved to Oakland, CA and he attended and graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 1957. He attended the University of California at Berkley, and then enlisted in the Marines. After an honorable discharge, he resumed his studies, graduating with a degree in Chemistry. He was employed as a Chemist at Standard Oil in Richmond, CA. An avid chess player, he was a fun loving person and a very articulate speaker.

He leaves to cherish his memory sister-cousin, Doris Manning of Oakland, CA; special caregiver-cousin, James E. Brown, Sr.and wife LaNita of Orange; friends Otha Hill of Many and Margaret Hill of Shreveport, LA. and many other relatives.
