The National Weather Service continues to monitor Tropical Storm Erika. It is expected to weaken to a tropical depression later tonight or Saturday, due to the mountainous region it will be traveling over in Hispaniola.

Erika could weaken further to a tropical wave, or strengthen to a tropical storm on Sunday. The intensity forecast is highly dependent on the length of time over the islands and the strong wind shear.
Weak systems like Erika have a history of changing forecast tracks and intensity due to relocation of the center of circulation. Therefore, it would be prudent to continue to monitor updates on Erika’s forecast through the weekend.
