Discover the many ways the W.H. Stark family was active and involved in the community by viewing the new exhibit display, Living Legacy, located on the second floor of the Carriage House. A Death in the Family: Mourning and Remembrance: 1880s – 1930s

Explore mourning death as an intrinsic part of life with elaborate rituals and social customs. For the first time, the Tower Room is used as an exhibition space, with special opportunities to learn and participate. The exhibition is the last stop on the regular tour, giving visitors an extraordinary experience in the historic setting. This thematic exhibition is organized chronologically and illuminates the changes in mourning practices from the 1880s to the 1930s, featuring objects from the Collection of The W.H. This exhibition of rare books from the Collection of the Stark Museum of Art highlights historic images of plants that harm. It features eleven botanical books from the sixteenth through nineteenth centuries. Each book is open to a page with a handsome woodcut or engraving that portrays a dangerous plant.
