NWS watching severe storms

Last updated 1/21/2016 at Noon

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles is monitoring strong to severe storms moving west to east across our region. A tornado watch is currently in effect region-wide. Some of these storms have produced large hail and have indicated possible tornadoes. The activity will be ending in southeast Texas between 3 and 5 pm, southwest and central Louisiana between 5 and 7 pm and south central Louisiana between 8 and 10 pm.

Later tonight, it will become quite windy, and the windy conditions will continue on Friday. Northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts over 30 mph, will be possible. Due to the strong winds, a wind advisory will be in effect for much of the region, and a low water advisory along the coast due to below normal tides.

After a light freeze in east Texas and central Louisiana Saturday morning, a cool and dry weekend is in store. Low rain chances will return early next week.
