As part of the National Football League's celebration of 50 years of the Super Bowl, Bridge City High School recently received two Golden Footballs honoring two of its alums who participated in the championship game.

Shane Dronett and Jason Mathews, both 1989 graduates of BCHS, were honored by the NFL with the arrival of the Golden Footballs late last week. Dronett, a dominant defensive lineman, participated in Super Bowl XXXIII as a member of the Atlanta Falcons. Shane played his college ball at the University of Texas as well as in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions before completing his career with the Falcons.

Mathews, a towering offensive lineman, played for Texas A&M University and was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts. After playing several years for the Colts franchise, Jason would join the Tennessee Titans. It was with the Titans that he participated in Super Bowl XXXIV.

The Golden Footballs honoring these two gentlemen and BCHS are on display in the front office of the high school.
