The education majors at Lamar State College-Orange were ready for the Valentine season. Critical thinking skills and heart shaped lesson plans went hand in hand for the students wanting to one day become school teachers.
The very beginnings of Black History Month can be found in Chicago during the summer of 1915. Carter G. Woodson joined others of African-American descent in Chicago to celebrate the 50th anniversary of emancipation.
The Lamar University Setzer Student Center is dedicated to exposing students to new and innovated programming. The Human Race Machine will be the focus of attention in the center during the week of February 8-12 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. You are invited to experience the Human Race Machine.
Registration for spring semester classes at Lamar State College-Port Arthur will continue through the college’s Web site (www.lamarpa.edu) during the school’s holiday break. The college will reopen Jan. 4. Spring semester classes begin Jan. 11.
Spring courses include a full range of academic and technical courses along with “hybrid courses” in which students meet in the classroom one or two days a week and complete the rest of the course online at their convenience.
Lamar Institute of Technology will honor 210 graduates at its commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Montagne Center.
Ira Wilsker, president of the LIT Faculty Senate and program director of LIT’s management development program, is the commencement speaker.
At the end of last month, the Lamar State College-Orange Speech and Debate Team competed in the Tarrant County Community College Novice Speech and Debate Tournament in Ft. Worth.
Reception set for Wednesday
In addition to Lamar State College-Orange’s 40th anniversary reception Wednesday honoring pioneers and lawmakers who helped shaped the campus, also being celebrated are record enrollment numbers.

Lamar University announced today that the Valero Energy Foundation – the charitable arm of Valero Energy Corp. – has donated $1 million to create scholarships for students in the College of Engineering.
Lamar University honored Rachelle Lanea Brignac of Orange with the Plummer Award, recognizing her as the top female graduate in Lamar’s class of August 2009.

Teachers of Tomorrow (TOT) is the future teacher organization at Lamar State College-Orange that provides students interested in education a means by which to interact and communicate with one another. The organization also serves to provide students with a mechanism by which they can grow professionally, cultivate a further interest in educationally related topics, and provide a service to LSC-O and the community.
The Continuing Education and Workforce Development Office at Lamar State College-Orange released its Spring 2010 schedule, which includes an exciting array of non-credit personal enrichment and workforce development classes.
While the traditional Thanksgiving is common to some, many families are not able to experience an abundance of food. Lamar State College-Orange employees and students wanted to make sure that at least everyone had the chance to enjoy a great meal.
Jewelry-making, crafts, Spanish and computer software are included in the fall classes offered by the Continuing Education and Workforce Development Office at Lamar State College-Orange.

Seventeen Southeast Texas teachers taking part in the Teaching Environmental Science summer institute at Lamar University explored environmental science last week by visiting Shangri La Botanical Gardens & Nature Center in Orange.
