First Presbyterian Lenten lunches
First
Presbyterian Church of Orange will offering a series of Lenten
meditations to the community and church members Tuesdays March 16, 23,
and 30 from noon-1 p.m. Lunch will be served.
The sanctuary of
the Lutcher Building, 902 Green Ave., will be open for
silent prayer
and meditation. Printed devotionals will be available.
Director of
Music Darren Hoyland will play the 50-year-old Casavant 73
rank
French-style pipe organ. Sack lunches will be provided in the
Fellowship Hall of the Lutcher Building – dine in or out. Donations
will be accepted.

Chevron retirees to meet
The Chevron
Retirees Association will meet at 11 a.m. March 9 in the
“middle”
dining room at Robert’s Steakhouse, 3720 W. Park Ave. in
Orange. All
Chevron, Texaco and Unocal retirees, spouses and guests are
invited.
A return to Robert’s will provide a better menu selection for
those with food limitations, according to the association.
Pharmacy program orientation
The Lamar
Institute of Technology Workforce Training Department will host a
mandatory orientation on Feb. 16 from 6-8 p.m. at the Multipurpose
Center, 802 E. Lavaca St., for the LIT Pharmacy Technician/Clinical
Medical Assistant programs.
Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists
package or mix prescriptions, maintain client records, assist in
inventory control and coordinate billing. This career is in
high-demand because of the growth of the elder population.

in Washington D.C. on April 28. Donated to “LCM’s
Got Talent” by U.S.
Rep. Kevin Brady, the tickets have a minimum bid of

Congressional Club, the event will be held at the Washington
Hilton.

Retired teachers to meet
The Retired
Teachers of Orange County will meet at 11 a.m., Feb. 8 at Wesley
United Methodist Church, 40l 37th St.
The program will be on
health issues with the emphasis on stroke prevention and
cardiovascular diseases.
Snacks will be provided by February
hostesses.
Red Hot Flashers Mardi Gras party
The Red
Hot Flashers of Orange will meet at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 28 at
Madame
Rebecca’s home for a Mardi Gras party. Marcie Baca is the

Plant
propagation class
Topics such as stem cuttings,
dividing roots, leaf cuttings and rooting
enhancement conditions will
be discussed at an Orange County Master
Gardeners class Saturday at
the Orange County Extension Office in
Mauriceville.
Project Safe Graduation senior bonfire
The
Little Cypress-Mauriceville Senior Bonfire, hosted by Project Safe
Graduation, will be from 8-11 p.m. Saturday at Manshack and Sons
Sandpit at the end of Teal Road. Seniors can buy their tickets at the
event for $10. For admission and a T-shirt, cost is $20. For $25,
seniors can also bring a guest (must be in at least ninth grade and
not
another senior).
Legion dance
Lloyd Grubbs Post 49 of the
American Legion’s New Year’s Eve dance will
be Dec. 31 at the post,
corner of Green Avenue and First Street in
Orange.
Doors open
at 6:30 p.m. Creole Cookin’ will perform from 7:30-midnight.

Orange County Relay for Life will hold team captain meetings on the fourth Monday of each month. Meeting dates are Feb. 22 and March 22. In April, two team captain meetings will be held. They will be April 19 and 27.
All team captains, as well as individuals interested in starting a team, are encouraged to attend. Team captain meetings are held at Lamar State College–Orange’s Wilson Building, Room 134.
WO-S baseball alumni odd/even game
All
former West Orange Chiefs, Lutcher Stark Tigers, and West
Orange-Stark Mustangs are invited to play in an alumni baseball game
at
5 p.m. Feb. 20. Teams will be divided according to graduation
year,
either odd or even. It will be a rag-ball game, so even old
guys need
to dust off their gloves, come out and play. Meet the 2010
Mustangs and
visit with former players.
Cost is $25 which
includes a T-shirt. Registration and warm-up is 4-5 p.m. at Mustang
stadium

Lamar University will
host a literary festival. attracting
award-winning writers to campus
for events Feb. 1 and 22. Authors
Robert Flynn and Jean Flynn will
read from their works at 7 p.m. Feb. 1
in the Dishman Art Museum
Lecture Hall. They will attend a
question-and-answer session at 5:30
p.m. Feb. 1 in Room 101 of the Maes
Building. On Feb. 22, short story
writer Andrew Geyer will present a
reading at 7 p.m. in the Dishman
Lecture Hall, with a
question-and-answer session at 5:30 p.m. in Room
101 of the Maes
Building. The festival is sponsored by the Office of

The Orange County Relay for Life will hold a kick-off event Thursday, Jan. 21 for “Re-Lei for a Cure: Island of Hope.’”

the tree. So we’re taking notice of
some unusual gifts that can be
troublesome for the recipient and

Children’s letters
For the third year a
special Santa Mailbox has been placed at the
Bridge City Post Office,
according to Rose Ouzts, postmaster. Children
have until Dec. 21 to
drop off letters to Santa. Envelopes should
include return
addresses.
OCP auditions
Orange
Community Players auditions for the upcoming production of
“Anatomy
Of Gray” will be Thursday at 7 p.m. at the playhouse, 708 W.
Division
Ave. Set in Indiana during the late 1800s, the drama by Jim
Leonard
deals with death, loss, love and healing in a unique coming of
age
story. Cast requirements are four males and five females aged
15-70.
Performances are set for Feb. 11-13 and 18-20, directed by Brook
