The name Bum Phillips is synonymous with a spiritual man who holds no punches with his southern ways. A native of Orange County, he’s revered as a man of his word and a strong supporter of his community. This month, he has released a new book entitled “Bum Phillips: Coach. Cowboy. Christian.”. It is a well written tale of his life.

Four rooms are being readied for a new program at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bridge City. For the first time, they will offer a mothers’ day out program for 18 months to 4 years old, two days a week. “We have plans to expand the program,” said the Rev. Brad Morgan.

King Henry VIII and the Texas Renaissance Festival have decreed Saturday, Aug. 14, and Sunday, Aug 15 as the 2010 Job Faire. There will be 100’s of seasonal positions available for the eight weekends of the 36th annual Texas Renaissance Festival.

The Bridge City Library is currently taking applications for enrollment into their story time program, which begins Wednesday, Sept. 8, and concludes in May. It is free to community members.

The Bridge City Public Library staff and the Friends of the BC Library wish to thank the whole community for their participation in the summer storytime programs this year. We had a total of 508 children and 304 adults attend the 6 programs.

At age 76 Jim Peters has the heart of a young man. After many years on the rodeo road, he would still fight a bull if he had the chance. At age 75 he proved he was still good for seven plus seconds on the back of a bull.

The Historical Museum of Bridge City board proposes to partner with the city to acquire and develop land to be used as a public waterfront park.

About five acres east of Texas 87 on Cow Bayou is owned by Orange County Development. The current price is $500,000. It was once the site of a popular fish camp – one of the community’s early establishments – owned by Joe Bailey.

Bridge City Troop 7 and Orangefield Troop 125 is teaming up with other scouts in the Golden Triangle to make two new troops traveling to Washington DC to celebrate the 100 years of Scouting.
