Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed Center Stage Boutique to the Orange community with a ribbon cutting recently. Owned by John and Evelyn Taylor, the boutique is located at 521 S. Hwy 87, Suite B in Orange.

Local business men, David Claybar (Old Orange Café and Catering Company) and Shane Johns (Mann Insurance Agency) have saved a Mauriceville restaurant. Tuffy’s Eatery was scheduled to close its doors on Sunday, June 27; instead, the landmark restaurant will continue to serve the people of Southeast Texas for decades to come. Normal operation resumed Thursday, July 1.

The third annual signature weekend for the Red Cross is almost here and volunteers are busy with preparations for the Paint the Town Red Gala and Swing Red Golf Tournament. The goal is to raise $30,000 for the organization.

A program for small business affected by Hurricane Ike in Orange, Hardin and Jefferson counties – the application deadline of which was Jan. 8 – has gotten phones ringing at economic development offices in all three counties wondering as to the program’s money status.

It was a fun day for women in Bridge City Saturday at the Community Center. The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce hosted BLISS, a day of pampering, as a fundraiser. Many area businesses that cater to women were represented.

Fifty charitable nonprofit agencies in Southeast Texas will get a boost for their programs from Entergy Texas’ Community Partnership Grants program, slated to award $45,000 this year. Since Entergy began the program in 1994, $500,000 has been awarded to deserving projects.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently approved the state of Texas’ revised plan for $1.7 billion in Round II Hurricane Ike funding.

The revised plan allocates $317,492,059 to the Southeast Texas region for non-housing and housing projects.

For most Southeast Texans, the Fourth of July means good food, family fun, and fireworks.

To 15-year-old Thomas Burnett, the Fourth of July means work. His family has owned the fireworks stand on the corner of Texas 62 and Farm Road 105, in front of the Carpet Factory Warehouse, since he was a toddler.
