A backhoe Tuesday morning dug into the earth, pulling up chunks of concrete from the foundation of Orange's old Central Fire Station. The walls were gone after two weeks of demolition.

According to Officer Mike Dempsey of the Pinehurst Police Department A gasoline powered pressure washer valued at $300 was removed by unknown person(s) from a residence in the 300 block of Cardinal in Pinehurst.
Dempsey also conducted an accident investigation Thursday on the Interstate 10 feeder road at Adams Bayou. Reprotedly a white male drove his vehicle into Adams Bayou after falling asleep while driving.

The Record Newspapers has lost one of its own. Robert Hankins, 48, passed away Saturday night due to a massive heart attack at his home in Lake Charles. Found by his wife of four years, Martha, Robert passed away in his chair while watching TV.

The Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce has named Ida Schossow as president/CEO of the organization. She succeeds Orange business woman Sabrina Grey. Schossow’s first day on the job will be Monday, Aug. 23.

A federal jury has found ex-Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich guilty of one count of lying to federal agents. The jury returned its verdict on Tuesday in the corruption case against Blagojevich.

According to Orange Police Chief Sam Kittrell, many Orange area residents have been receiving a mass mail solicitation from a company by the name of “Home Service Texas” offering insurance for water line maintenance from the residence to the meter for $4.99 a month.

According to Bridge City Police, a P.T. Cruiser sruck a culvert and flipped yesterday evening killing its lone occupant. A Marshal Middle School school teacher, Sheridon Wright, 62, of Orange was eastbound on Farm Road 1442 near Tower Road when her car veered across oncoming traffic and hit the ditch.

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs today said state sales tax revenue in July was $1.69 billion, up 2.2 percent compared to one year ago.

“Total monthly sales tax revenue has now exceeded year-ago levels for the last four months,” Combs said.  “Sales tax collections in major sectors such as retail trade, the oil and natural gas industry and construction are up from a year ago.  We are monitoring these sectors to see if collections are returning to consistent growth.”
