Early voting underway for May 9 election

Early voting began Monday for the May 9 election, seeing opposition in Bridge City, Orange and Pinehurst council races; and mayoral contests in Pine Forest and Vidor. West Orange saw no opposition.

Voters will also weigh opposition in the Bridge City, Little Cypress-Mauriceville, West Orange-Cove and Vidor school districts. Bridge City ISD saw no opposition.

City races, listed alphabetically, are:

• Bridge City: Running for Seat 5 are incumbent Richard Savoy, Lucy J. Fields and Don Bartz; and for Seat 1 – Incumbent Kevin Mott, and Susan McPhail. Unopposed is Robert Simonton Jr. in Seat 3.

• Orange: Running for Seat 2 are incumbent Jimmy Sims and Elgin Browning. In the Seat 4 race, incumbent Deborah Mitchell faces William Mello.

• Pine Forest: Mayor Jody Crump did not run for re-election. Filing for the mayor’s postion were James Eubank and Danny Peno. Unopposed is John Davis, Seat 1.

• Pinehurst: Challenging for at-large seats are Bill Triggs and George Michael “Mike” Anderson. Unopposed are Bessie Huckaby and Dan Barclay.

• Vidor: Mayor Ray Long, in his presently appointed position, is being challened by Johnny Lee Moore. Unopposed are Don Eicher, Ward 1; Mallie Bickham, Ward 4; and David Slaughter, Ward 6.

• West Orange: Unopposed are Mayor Roy McDonald, Councilwoman Francis Droddy and Councilman Charles Winter.

Also, voters in Orange County ESD will decide the fate of a proposed sales and use tax increase.

School board races, listed alphabetically:

Bridge City: Unopposed races are in seats held by for Lon Hubbard, Place 1; and Kirk Ellender, Place 2.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville: Keith Adams faces Kent Crow filed for Place 4, left open when Donna Scheer did not run again.

West Orange-Cove: Incumbents Pete Amy and Eric Mitchell face Essie Bellfield, Eric Guillory and Richard “Dickie” Taylor for at-large seats.

Vidor: Michael Quinn (I) faces Rick Powell for Position 2.

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. through Friday and on Monday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Cities of Orange, Pinehurst, and West Orange-Cove and Little Cypress-Mauriceville boards: Orange Public Library, 220 N. Fifth St.

Cities of Vidor and Pine Forest, Vidor school board: Vidor schools’ administration office, 120 E. Bolivar St.

LC-M school board: LC-M adminsitration building, 6586 Farm Road 1130; Mauriceville Fire Dept., 8465 N. Texas 87.

ESD 3 Tax Vote: Little Cypress Fire Dept., 8465 N. Texas 87.
