Primary filing deadline ends

Monday was the deadline to file for March primary elections, with contested seats being justice of the peace for Precinct 1 and commissioner, Precinct 4.

Orange County Democratic Party chairman Mark Carter said late filings include two for the Precinct 4 commissioners’ seat by challenger Percy Flanigan and incumbent Beamon Minton. 

Former Pine Forest Mayor Jody Crump has filed to run as a Republican in November against the primary winner.

County Judge Carl Thibodeaux is unopposed for his seat. He filed Dec. 15 to run for his fifth term.

Also, Christy Khoury, chief deputy of the treasurer’s office, picked up no opposition for treasurer. (Treasurer Vergie Moreland is not seeking re-election).

Democratic Party filings, contested races:

• Commissioner, Precinct 4: Percy Flanigan, 44, heavy equipment operator; and Beamon Minton, 68, incumbent.

• Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1: Michael Abbott, 65, attorney, municipal judge; Joel Ardoin, 43, OC environmental health and code compliance director; and David Peck, 57, DOT regulations manager. (Judge Joe Parkhurst is not seeking re-election).

Uncontested races:

• County Judge: Carl Thibodeaux, 64.
• Commissioner, Precinct 2: Owen Burton, 66.
• Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2, Derry Dunn, 64.
• Justice of the Peace, Precinct 3: Janice Menard, 69.
• Justice of the Peace, Precinct 4: Rodney Price, 62.
• County Court at Law 1: Michael Shuff, 60.
• 260th District Judge: Buddie Hahn, 65.
• County Treasurer: Christy Khoury, 46.
• County Clerk: Karen Jo Vance, 54.
• District Clerk: Vickie Edgerly, 49.
