Police were dispatched Wednesday evening to Baptist Hospital emergency room, regarding a man being uncooperative and assaulting a paramedic. Officers arrived on the scene to find Dimeric Jeron Ross of Orange, who had been transported to the hospital to be evaluated for an unknown medical problem.

Ross was sitting on a stretcher located in the main hallway of the emergency room shouting obscenities to the medical staff. He was shouting so loud, he could be heard throughout the emergency ward.

A woman who was identified as Ross’ girlfriend was sitting next to him trying to calm him down, however Ross became verbally abusive to her, and police instructed her to move away from him.

Police instructed Ross several times to refrain from shouting and cursing, but he continued, becoming further agitated with officers and medical staff.

Due to Ross’ behavior, police told him he was under arrest for disorderly conduct, and when the officers attempted to handcuff Ross, he began to thrash and swing his arms, and kick at police. Another officer attempted to help restrain Ross in order to get him handcuffed, however, a security guard, a paramedic and some of the hospital staff assisted in getting him cuffed.

After he was handcuffed, Ross began to slide his upper body off the stretcher until his legs were perpendicular to the stretcher. As police began to pull Ross back onto the stretcher, the ER treating physician approached and stopped by Ross’ feet.

Ross pulled both legs up to his abdomen and kicked the doctor in the front of his pelvic area into the wall. Police restrained Ross legs and secured him face down on the stretcher. He was then wheeled out of the ER on the stretcher and placed into a police car.

He was transported to the Orange County Jail, where he was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault.

The physicians’ injuries were minor, but he stated he will pursue charges against Ross for assault.
