Bridge City Little League Expands

Last updated 12/23/2007 at Noon

Bridge City Little League is growing in leaps and bounds.

The Little League family is offering its Junior League for 13-14 year old boys.

This program will replace the Pony League in Bridge City.

Little league will also be offering the Senior League for 15-16 year old boys, which will also be played at the newly remodeled Junior Park.

The old Pony Board petitioned Little League in the fall to join the BCLL family.

BCLL immediately saw the opportunity to expand its programs, and to include a program for 15-16 year old boys.

In the past system, 15 year olds did not have a league to participate in.

The old Pony Park was too small to house the new program, so BCLL is remodeling the park.

First the League brought in 40 loads of dirt for the outfield, and 10 loads of dirt in the infield.

New Bermuda sod has been placed in the infield, and the outfield has been planted with winter rye.

At 270 feet, the outfield fence was too close for Little League, so it was torn down and is being rebuilt at 300 feet.

This will allow both boys’ leagues to host All Star games.

The outfield light poles are being moved this weekend, and the BCLL hopes to add more lights to all the poles.

A new scoreboard has been ordered for this coming season, and hopefully work can be done on the old concession stand and press box soon.

Little League is also expanding the Tee Ball program to include 4-year-old boys and girls.

The league had to turn away 35-50 4-year-olds last year, so this year BCLL was granted permission to offer this new program.

If a child turns 4 before April 30th of 2008, they will be allowed to play this year.

A new field for this group is being constructed behind the Little League Park .

Little League registration will be held on Saturdays, January 12th and 19th of 2008, 10 am to 3 pm, at the Bridge City Community Center.

Children living in Bridge City and Orangefield School Districts, WO-C School District, and parts of LCM School District will be allowed to play baseball and softball at BCLL. Girls in the Vidor School District will be allowed to play softball at BCLL. A birth certificate and 3 proofs of residency will be required to register.

Fees are $65 for the first child, $20 each for the next two children in the same family, and no charge for the fourth child in the same family.
