The Orangefield High School art students recently participated in the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Contest. Ten local districts displayed their artwork in the Evadale Media Center, where judges from the Houston area arrived to judge and critique their artwork. Numerous first and second place ribbons were awarded to the drawings, paintings, and sculptures created by the students.

Four pieces of artwork from OHS were selected to travel to Houston to be displayed at Reliant Center for the duration of the Rodeo. Those students won trophies, gold medals, rodeo tickets, and scholarship applications. They were Shawn McBride, Special Merit; Kelly Sims, Gold Medal; Loan Le, Best of Show; and Sidney Thomas, Gold Medal. High school art teacher, Sherry Windham said, "This was the largest number of pieces that have ever traveled to Houston from Orangefield."
