Weldon Everette Gibson
Weldon Everette Gibson, 81, of Deweyville, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Beaumont. A home going celebration of his life will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the First Pentecostal Church in Starks, Louisiana. Officiating will be Reverend Greg Frazier with the First Pentecostal Church in Starks, assisting will be Reverend James Corkran with the Nederland Apostolic Church in Nederland, Texas and Reverend Darrell Orange with the United Pentecostal Church in Deweyville. Interment will follow services at the Fountain Cemetery in Starks. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the church.
Born on September 12, 1926 in Starks, Louisiana to John Everette and Tressie Inez (Walker) Gibson, he was a longtime resident of the Deweyville area, a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Starks, he retired as a maintenance mechanic from the DuPont Sabine River Works Plant in Orange, was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy, he coached the baseball teams of his sons with the Twin County Little League, he was a Past President of the Deweyville Volunteer Fire Department, he enjoyed deer hunting with his family, he was a longtime President of the Fountain Cemetery Association in Starks, he was a trustee with the school board of the Deweyville I. S. D. and after his retirement he worked doing maintenance for the South Newton Water Supply Company in Deweyville.
Mr. Gibson is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Helen Wilson. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Edna M. Gibson of Deweyville; daughters, Kathy Malone and Midge Ness and husband Leif all of Deweyville; sons, Steven G. Gibson and wife Wanda and Lanny E. Gibson and wife Shelia all of Deweyville; sisters, Opal Meyers of Vidor and Billie Faye Clifton of DeQuincy; brother, Carlton W. Gibson and wife Idell of Starks; Ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.
