March 4 is quickly approaching and Orange County residents will need to be informed before they head to the polls.

To help make that happen, Lamar State College-Orange and The Orange Leader have partnered to bring the “Orange County Candidates Forum” to the community. Monday, Feb. 25, beginning at 6 p.m. in the LSC-O Student Center located at 407 Green Ave.

Of the 23 candidates running for office, 21 will be in attendance and participating in the forum. The program is designed to allow equal time for each candidate to share their plans for Orange County by answering questions submitted by the audience to forum moderators Attendees will have the opportunity to write theirs questions on index cards as they enter the Student Center. “These questions will be screened by the moderators before being asked of the candidates to ensure fairness and to reduce duplicate queries,” said Ashley Sanders, editor of The Orange Leader.

The general meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium where the candidates for the sheriff’s race answer questions from 6-6:50 p.m. From 7-7:50 p.m., candidates in the constable races of the four precincts will answer questions in designated rooms in the Student Center.

Following the constable candidates, the group will reconvene in the gymnasium from 8-850 p.m. for the final portion of the forum to hear the candidates for the county commissioner races.

Parking is available on the east and west sides of the Student Center. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact LSC-O Director of Public Information Jennifer Rector at 409-882-3345.
