Rains didnt dampen the spirits of Bridge City Cardinals as they took Jasper 7-6
At first it looked like the Jasper Bulldogs were the “mudders” gaining five runs in the first inning when Bridge City’s Matt Hicks, gave up two home runs.
Hicks got his footing later, allowing only one more run in the game.
With the help of team mates Casey Jackson and Blake Snyder, the Cardinals beat the Bulldogs 7-6 to keep the lead in district standings. the Cards are 9-0, while defending State Champions, the Bulldogs are 7-2 with both losses accredited to Bridge City.
Jackson hit a three run homer in the top of the fourth tieing Jasper 6-6
Cardinal Blake Snyder gave Bridge City the lead with a homer to start out the top of the fifth.
Hicks kept the lead with three up and three down in the bottom of the fifth.
Team work kept the lead in the sixth as Hicks got a batter to swing at the third strike and Jackson’s throw reached second base before the Bulldog that was attempting a steal.
The Cards kept the 7-6 lead in the seventh to defeat the Bulldogs for the second time this season.
