Coy Lynn Spears, 73, of Deweyville, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2008 in Starks, Louisiana.  Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 20, 2008 in the Chapel of Dorman Funeral Home in Orange.  Officiating will be Brother John Fortenberry, pastor of the Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville.  Interment will follow in King Cemetery in Hartburg.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Born on January 10, 1935 in Westlake, Louisiana to Stephen E. and Sarah Jane (Bickham) Gilchrist, she resided in Deweyville for the last 63 years, she worked as a meat cutter for Mac’s Grocery Store in Deweyville, was a faithful member and supporter of Calvary Baptist Church in Deweyville and she was a community activist for many public causes.  Mrs. Spears worked with the People’s Ambulance Service, she helped form the Senior Citizens Committee of Deweyville and she was known as a good listener.  Mrs. Spears was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she gave special nicknames to her grandchildren and great grandchildren and she loved her children’s spouses as though they were her own.  She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren in sporting events and enjoyed cooking breakfast for her family.

Mrs. Spears is preceded in death by her parents, husband, N.L. Spears, son, Stephen Spears, daughter, Deborah Spears, sister, Willie B. Clark and her brother, T.L. Gilchrist.  Those who will most cherish her memory are her daughters, Melissa Bailey and husband Bill of Deweyville and Melita Brockman of Deweyville; son, Jack Spears and wife Jackie of Deweyville.  Grandchildren, Kaycee Spears, Eric Bailey and wife Kimberley, Bo Jack Brockman and wife Christel and Clint Brockman and wife Sarah; great grandchildren, Jacob Brockman, Shelby Lilyquist, Justin Lilyquist and Brooke Brockman.  Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.  Pallbearers will be Bo Jack Brockman, Clint Brockman, Jack Spears, Eric Bailey, Bill Bailey and Tommy Spears.  Honorary Pallbearer will be Kaycee Spears.  For those desiring memorial contributions, please honor Mrs. Spears by making a donation to the Calvary Baptist Church, Post Office Box 77, Deweyville, Texas 77614-0077.
