LC-M Rolls in the awards at Winter Park Colorado
One would think it was enough that the Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School Wind Ensemble just earned their thirtieth Sweepstakes Award at UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest. Apparently, the group is on a roll, because they just returned from Winter Park Colorado where they won every award for which they were eligible.
On Friday, April 11, 2008, the LCM Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band and Jazz Band competed in the Winter Park Colorado Music Festival. The event included over 30 bands from all over the United States and Norway. The bands are judged by three-person panels and receive a ranking from one to five, with one being the best. All three LCM bands received 1st Division Ratings from all three judges.
In addition, the Symphonic Band was named “Best in Class,” as was the Wind Ensemble. The Wind Ensemble received the Festival’s highest honor of “Concert Band Grand Champion.” This is an honor that is awarded regardless of the bands school size classification.
In Jazz competition, Drummer Cody Schatte, Trombonist Paul Broussard and Guitarist Andrew Reimers were presented a special citation for “Outstanding Jazz Musicianship.” The “Outstanding Trumpet Player” of the festival was LCM’s own Rebecca Kent and Drew Vandagriff was named “Outstanding Saxophone Player” of the entire festival. The LCM Jazz Band was awarded “Best in Class” as well as “Jazz Ensemble Grand Champion.”
The bands are directed by Kevin Stone and Stacy Clark.
