Vidors Parker claims gold at state meet
Orange County picked up a few medals this weekend in the state track meet held in Austin.
The only gold was won by Jared Parker from Vidor in the pole vault competition Friday evening with a vault of fifteen feet and nine inches. That is still almost three feet under the record set in 1999 by Eric Eshbach of Orangefield. Eshbach still holds the state and national record of 18-2.25.
West Orange-Stark relay team didn’t medal in their first race coming in fourth place in the 4×100 meter relay with a time of 40.78. They took silver in the 4×200 meter relay clocking in at 1:27.02 after a substitution of Nick Reed when James Haynes was injured in the previous race. The rest of the team consists of Trey Franks, Joshua Gloston and Seth Thomas.
Bridge City’s Corey Smith claimed bronze in the 800 meter with a time of 1:58.62.
Saturday, Joe Dooley of Deweyville also earned a bronze metal in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:57.42. He came up short in the 1600 meter with a time of 5:05.25, which put him in last place.
