Special Olympics brings smiles at LC-M
Special Olympics athletes entered the gym at Little Cypress Intermediate on Wednesday morning, May 14, through an arch of arms made by their friends, families, teachers, and supporters. The pledge of allegiance was recited and Olympic Pledge was given before the torch was passed from one athlete to another to begin the games.
Thirty-five athletes participated in the Olympics, with over 100 volunteers setting up and running the games, serving as athletes’ buddies and cheering each student on. Volunteers came from the Little Cypress Intermediate School, Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, the Parent Teacher organization, First Baptist Church, the Shorkey Center, and parents, grandparents, and friends of the athletes.
Becky Greer, Physical Therapist for the LCM District organized the event. Renee Klovenski, Keith Lay, Jimmie Lea Simmons and Dana Simmons represented the Special Olympics organization.
