Bridge City Library starts summer reading program
Two exciting summer reading programs start June 2 at the Bridge City Public Library.
“Reading with Ringling Bros.” gives children ages 2 to 12 the opportunity to earn a free ticket to the Ringling Bros. Barnum and Bailey Circus. The circus will be coming to Ford Park in Beaumont Aug. 8-10 and the Lake Charles Civic Center on Aug. 5-6.
Children should enroll with a parent through the library, 101 Parkside Drive. The children will be given everything they need to participate in the free reading program. They will also be given free bookmarks, clown noses, puzzles and coloring sheets.

The other program starting June 2 is the “Texas Reading Club Jubilee: 1958-2008”.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Bridge City Public Library in cooperation with the Texas State Library’s Reading Club 2008.
The program includes Wednesday morning story time and activities, along with reading at home. The program is for children from the Pre-Kindergarten levels to 6th Grade. Library cards are free.
Readers need to register between June 2 and June 11. They will receive a timed reading log to record the time they read. The recommended time is at least 15 minutes per day. Reading logs need to be returned July 23. Only children who complete their logs will receive recognition.
Pre-school children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the program.
Guests for the programs during the summer will be Julian Franklin, “Magic with Puppets,” Jerry Honza,”Golf Practice,” Alan King, “Ancient Martial Arts,” Grant Gilson, “Magic Show,” Carol Boehcher with the Gulf Coast Museum, and Noel or Ellen from Shangri La.
The recognition ceremony will be held July 30.
Local Donors for the program are; Blockbuster, Dollar General, DuPont Goodrich FCU, Entergy, Gulf Employees Credit Union, Jack in the Box, Market Basket, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut, and Sonic.
