Additional $500,000 for Hurricane Ike relief
The Texas Regional Financial Office of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans in Irving, and its local members are rallying to generate recovery support for communities devastated by Hurricane Ike. The communities are located in 29 counties of eastern Texas declared disaster areas by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as a result of Hurricane Ike, including Galveston, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Orange and all of the Greater Houston Area.
Thrivent Financial has allocated an additional $250,000 to its regional financial offices in Texas and Louisiana to support hurricane recovery efforts led by its local chapters and members. This relief will be distributed to organizations and recipients within the hurricane-affected territories. For information on how to help or donate, please contact: Mary Jo Pfeiffer, Lutheran Community Services Specialist at firstname.lastname@example.org or 210-572-1777.
In addition, Thrivent Financial is extending a call for action to its chapters and members nationwide. For every $2 raised by chapters for hurricane response, Thrivent Financial will provide an additional $1, up to a total of $250,000. All funds will be directed to Lutheran Disaster Response and the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) Committee on Relief, which will distribute the funding to meet the needs of those affected by the hurricane.
Thrivent Financial members are organized into 1,357 local groups, called chapters, to plan and execute charitable, social and educational activities.
“In times of natural disasters like Hurricane Ike, Thrivent Financial members can always be counted on to show their care,” said Dee Terry, manager of Lutheran community services for Thrivent Financial’s Texas Region. “Through our organizational structure, all members are assigned to local chapters which equip them to rapidly respond to help those in need through fund raising and providing hands-on support to those affected by catastrophes. Our members are known worldwide for sharing their hearts and their hands.”
