Elementary students enjoy learning cooking basics
West Orange – Stark High School Culinary Arts Club and Future Teachers of America teamed up to offer elementary students ages five to 10 the opportunity to attend a Cooking School for Kids last weekend.
The two high school organizations worked with more than 40 students, primarily from Anderson and Oates Elementary Schools.
West Orange – Stark High School Food Production Instructor Pat Geis said the two high school organizations offered the service project to encourage the elementary students to develop a joy of cooking. Additionally, the groups stressed that cooking must involve adult supervision.
At the event elementary students received aprons and chefs’ hats and then rotated in small groups through stations in which they prepared taco soup, pigs in a blanket, salad on a stick, apple pie enchiladas, and easy peanut butter cookies.
The students also decorated cookies, cut out rice krispie treats, and enjoyed a wonderful lunch comprised of all the foods that they had created.
Students were able to take home a Cooking School for Kids recipe book.
More than 20 WO-S High School students participated at the event. Pat Geis sponsors the Culinary Arts Club. Beverly Robinson sponsors the Future Teachers of America.
