Little Cypress Mauriceville High School senior, Katie Harrell, was announced as the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce Student of the Month for January. Katie is the daughter of John and Johnnie Kay Harrell. 

Katie is an outstanding student and athlete.  She will graduate in the top 5% of her class.  Katie has played varsity tennis, basketball, softball, and golf all four years of high school. She competed at the regional level two years in tennis and at state in softball.  Katie was the 2nd baseman for the State Champion Softball team her freshman year and was selected to the State “All-Tournament” Team.  Other softball honors were being chosen for the “All Orange Leader Team,” the “Golden Triangle Dream Team,” and 2nd Team “All-District.”  In basketball, Katie was chosen honorable mention “All-District” and made the “All Tournament” team in the Barber’s Hill Classic this year. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Katie has excelled in the classroom.  She has made the “All-District Academic Team” every year in high school and is a member of the National Honor Society.  Katie has had the honor of being selected by her peers and teachers to be on the Homecoming court and the Mr. and Ms. LCM court.  She has also been selected by her teachers as a “Star Student.” Katie is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a member of North Orange Baptist church.

In her time away from school activities she has done various volunteer activities in the community.  She has played softball and basketball since she was about 6 years old.  She likes to fish and go horseback riding and loves to jet-ski.  She also plays the piano.

Katie plans to attend Texas A&M University in the fall and major in Biology (pre-med) and hopes to become a Pediatrician.

Katie was recognized by Rose Simar, chairperson of the GOACC Education Committee and by other members of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. She received a gift certificate from GOACC for $25 and a GOACC clock, a gift certificate from Independent Cosmetologist Misty Bornholdt-Winder, drink of her choice from the Jumping Bean, a gift basket from Lamar State College Orange which included an MP3 player, a gift basket from Heaven Sent, a gift basket from MCT Credit Union, an insulated bag from Memorial Herman Baptist Hospital, and a pen and pencil set from Entergy.  Katie’s teacher received a book from the Orange Leader “Ike’s Images”.  All the members of her class received goody bags with gifts from several GOACC members.  They would like to congratulate Katie and wish her a bright and successful future.
