Seventeen West Orange – Stark High School students have earned their Texas Food Handler’s license.

WO-S High School Culinary Art, Food Production, and Family and Consumer Science students had the opportunity to take the state Food Handler’s course instructed by Orange County Agri-Life Family and Consumer Sciences Agent Paula Tacker.

Tacker taught the licensing course over an eight week period during tutorial period at WO-S High School.

The WO-S students then tested to earn their license. All were successful.

State restaurants require new hires to complete the course and earn their license. With the food handler’s license, many of the students are able to earn employment at above the minimum wage level.

WO-S High School Food Production Instructor Pat Geis said, “This is a really great opportunity for them. This puts them ahead of many other applicants when seeking employment in the food service industry. This license is also good for two years.”
