R. Jessie Brown, 89, of Orange, died Thursday, April 2, 2009, in her home.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Claybar Funeral Home Chapel in Orange. Officiating will be the Rev. David Green. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Bridge City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown was born on July 18, 1919 in Halls Summit, La. She was the daughter of Robert Jessie White Pepper and Minnie Ollie Alexander. Mrs. Brown retired as secretary from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department in 1983.Mrs. Brown lived in Bridge City since 1948 and has been involved in the community. She also owned and operated Brown’s Gulf Station in Bridge City for 20 years. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Chapter 141, and was a former County Chairman for the Democratic Convention.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolton Louis Brown; sisters, Lorina Blackburn, Dorothy Pixley; and brother, Vern Pepper.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brothers, Jack D. Pepper of Bridge City, Hendricks E. Pepper of Port Arthur; sister, Melba J. Allen of Port Arthur; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.    

Pallbearers will be Ray Groom, Dean Pepper, Robert Lopez, Jr., Patrick Toomey Jordan Williams and Cameron Williams. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chad Pepper, Bryan Bagley and Colton Williams.
