"Senior Night" sweetened by big win
It was supposed to be the last home game Friday night for the Bridge City Lady Cardinals and the end of the season against the first place West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs.
For two Lady Cardinal seniors, infielders Mallory Guidry and Sarah Armand, it was supposed to be good bye to their teammates and coaches in “Senior Night” ceremonies before the game. But on this Friday night in Bridge City severe weather stopped the game against the Lady Mustangs in the opening inning.
The game was resumed Monday and the Lady Cardinals stunned WO-S handing the Lady Mustangs a 10-0 trouncing. Armand smacked with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Leading 9-0 in the fifth inning Guidry singled to center and scored the winning run on a Emily Kosh ended the game with a RBI double.
The Lady Cardinals finished with a 5-5 mark, to stayed tied with the Lady Longhorns who defeated the Harden-Jefferson Lady Hawks, 6-3, on Monday. The Lady Mustangs (23-10, 8-2) finish in a first place tie with the Silsbee Lady Tigers.
The girls where accompanied by their parents Richard and Tammy Guidry and Brian and Karen Armand.
The “Senior Night” ceremonies are being practiced at softball and baseball fields all over the area as the districts seasons come to a close and the playoffs begin.
