James Woodrow Shelton, 63, of Mont Belvieu, and Rociada, N.M., died of Acute Myeloplastic Leukemia Monday, April 27, 2009.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary Catholic Church in Orange. The Rev. Joseph P. Daleo, will be the celebrant.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

Born in Lafayette, La., Sept. 20, 1945, he was the son of Woodrow and Mary Doris (Duhon) Shelton .

Mr. Shelton retired from the United States Steel, Cargill and Vallourec and Mannesmann. He attended St. Mary school and Lamar State College of Technology. He also was a member of the American Petroleum Institute.

He was preceded in death by his father, Woodrow Shelton.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Shelton; children, Kimberley Shelton Rollins and her husband Kirby of Victoria, Kara Shelton Bear and her husband Christopher of Kingwood; mother, Mary Doris Shelton of Orange; grandchildren, Truett Kyle Rollins, Rylan and Ava Bear; brothers, Patrick R. Shelton and his wife Nancy of Corales, N.M., Kevin A. Shelton and his wife Kristi of Orange; nieces, Arianna Shelton, Marielle Shelton; and nephew Mark Shelton of Baton Rouge.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Bear, Kirby Rollins, Mark Shelton, Lee Edwards, Mike Smith and Casey Duhon.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202. Memorials may also be made in the form of blood donations to either M.D. Anderson or one’s blood bank of choice.
