LSC-O students get a taste of “plant-life” at Lanxess
Recently, a group of Lamar State College-Orange industrial technology students toured the Lanxess Orange Plant to get a feel for where a degree in this field could take them. Faculty and staff thought it would be a great opportunity to experience the “plant-life” first-hand and speak directly with those employees.
Prior to entering the plant site, the students received basic safety training conducted by Regius Guillory, head of security and HR representative at Lanxess. They learned information about the site and types of products used in various applications.
Lanxess employee, David Hulsey, conducted the walk-through tour where students were able to see major operational and equipment features of the facility. The highlight of the tour included a visit to the finishing building and a walk through of a process unit. The industrial technology students are enrolled in classes such as process instrumentation, process equipment, process troubleshooting, and principles in quality.
Adjunct instructor, Cheryl Pollard, states, “The students had a positive experience and gained a better understanding of process equipment and operating methods.”
The industrial technology program, which is part of LSC-O’s Business and Technology division, is designed to develop basic skills through various specialized courses to prepare students for entry-level positions in the petrochemical industry. Upon successful completion of the coursework, students will be able to transfer to a four-year degree in Industrial Technology at Lamar University.
After one year, students will be able to transfer to Lamar Institute of Technology and/or McNeese State University to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree.
The Business and Technology Division offers many programs including computer science, information technology, process technology, industrial technology, business management/accounting/entrepreneurship, medical office, medical transcription, customer service representative, information clerk and information management specialist.
We have excellent faculty and staff to help students get started.
