LCM Teams In Golf, Softball And Baseball Close Out Spring With Strong Showings
The Lady Bears golf team won the District 20-4A championship, with freshman Brooke Brasseux as low medalist.
In softball the Lady Bears finished second to the Nederland Lady Bulldogs, as did the Bears baseball team to the Nederland boys. Both the LCM girls and boys made strong showings in the playoffs before elimination.
Brenham’s Cubs ended the Bears baseball season last week in the Region III quarter-finals, winning the first two of a three game series, 3-2 and 6-1. The Lady Bears season ending loss came earlier.
A highlight of the playoffs for Bears baseball was Coach Steve Griffith’s surpassing of the 400 game victory mark of his exceptional career.
Earning First Team All-District honors in LCM softball were: Camrie Helm, freshman pitcher; Brittany Chance, senior outfielder; Alyssa Breshears, senior at third base; Katye Harris, junior catcher; and Debra Hamor, senior utility player.
Named to the second team were: senior shortstop, Katie Harrell; senior at first base, Britni Colles. Senior outfielder Julianne Viator; junior at second base, Delana Hamor; and senior pitcher Erin May—each received honorable mention.
Camrie Helm, freshman pitcher was named the district’s “Newcomer of the Year.”
Nederland’s Lady Bulldogs lost in the regional semi-finals to Angleton, but the Nederland boys remained alive in the baseball playoffs, advancing with a decisive 6-0 victory over Magnolia. They will face Friendswood in the regional semi-finals later this week.
