Early release dates
West Orange-Cove district schools will observe an early release Thursday, according to a statement from the district. West Orange-Stark Middle School and West Orange-Stark High School will release at 11:15 a.m. North Early Learning Center will release at 11:45 a.m. Anderson and Oates Elementary campuses will release at noon. Buses will run.
Pinehurst annual clean-up
The city of Pinehurst’s annual spring clean-up, free for Pinehurst residents only, will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the MacArthur Shopping Center in the parking lot of the old Sears building. Proof of residency is required through a driver’s licence, water bill or similar ID. Accepted items include wood, furniture and freon-free appliances. Hazardous Materials not accepted include tires, paints, cleaners, antifreeze, car batteries, used oil, insecticides, swimming pool chemicals and gas tanks.
The Lamar State College-Port Arthur Theater Department and the Port Arthur Little Theater will conduct auditions through Thursday for the cast of their combined summer musical, “Annie Get Your Gun.”
LSC-PA theater director Keith Cockrell said students and members of the community are invited to audition for the show, which has roles for both adults and children.
“We try to make sure that everyone who shows up to audition feels welcome,” he said. “We will teach songs from the show at the auditions. Casting will be as inclusive as the script allows.”
Auditions begin at 7 p.m. at the LSC-PA Performing Arts Center, 1700 Procter St. “Annie” will be staged June 1-3, changed from previosly announced dates. For more information, call Cockrell at 984-6338.
BC Studio C Dance Center to hold recital
Bridge City’s Studio C Dance Center, unter the artistic direction of Sheila Connally will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, at the Julie Roger’s Theater, 701 Main Street in Beaumont. Invited guests from the Beaumont Ballet Theatre will perform.
Established in 1993, Studio C provides instruction in tap, jazz, tumbling, hip hop, ballet, lyrical, pointe, twirling and clogging. Recital is an opportunity for dancers to perform for family and friends.
Senior BBT Company dancers will share the original choreography of natives’ Emily Lockard and Morgan Allen. Their pieces were presented at Regional Dance America/ Southwest Festival in Sugarland in April where dance companies from five states convened.
Tickets for the recital will be available at the door after 12 p.m., the day of the performance for $7 each. For information, call 735-8900.
Little league elections
Bridge City Little League annual board elections are set for 6 p.m. Thursday in the BCLL board room.
All board positions are open and will be filled after the general election. Parents with children playing in the BCLL are eligible to vote and run for a position.
The league is devoted to offering the best baseball / softball programs in the Golden Triangle. The league needs people with the same interests willing to work and devote the time needed to maintain the high level of excellence the league has achieved.

LSC-O movie night
Lamar State College-Orange released the following statement about its May 19 movie night:
“Lamar State College-Orange would like to thank everyone who attended the movie night on May 19. Due to miscommunication, the event did not go as initially planned, but we still made the best of the beautiful evening, fresh popcorn and great movie. We were able to salute our graduates in attendance and show the movie in our Allied Health Building to the guests that stayed. Please be on the lookout for LSC-O’s next S.O.G. (Screen on the Green) event toward the end of the summer.”
Fresh fruit and produce available
HEB Plus on Dowlen Road in Beaumont announces the continuation of the Local Farmers Market Event. Come by and visit local growers every Wednesday starting through June 24 from 4p.m. until 7p.m.
It is a free event for local growers to bring their produce and sell to the public.
