Traffic stop nets $4500 in marijuana
A traffic stop on Interstate 10 Wednesday netted over five pounds of marijuana.
A gray 2002 Hyundai Sonata with Mississippi license plates was stopped around noon when Orange County Sheriff’s Officers Sgt. Tracy Sorge and Sgt. Joel Stinnett observed the car running a stop sign at FM 1441 and I-10.
During a short interview, the driver admitted to having marijuana inside the trunk of the car and submitted to a search. Marijuana in excess of five pounds was revealed.
The driver, Micky Lee Morris, 25, of Diberville, Miss. was arrested for possession of marijuana. The passenger, Steven Wayne Penton, 25, of Gulfport, Miss. was also arrested for felony possession of marijuana. Both were transported to the Orange County Jail for booking.
Bonds will be set once they have been arraigned on the charges.
The marijuana has an approximate street value of $4500. The case will be turned over to the Orange County District Attorneys’ Office.
