The Bridge City Little League All-Stars, the Texas-East Champions, tossed New Mexico 13-1 in Game Two Sunday to clinch a spot in the final round of the Southwest Regional single elimination tournament on Tuesday.

Chase Shugart went 5 innings on the hill and smacked a fourth inning solo home run- his 9th in the playoffs– as Texas-East gets one step closer to the Little League World Series to be televised on ESPN Aug. 13.

Texas-East jumped on New Mexico early with 3-runs on two hits in the top of the second inning. Matthew Kress singled advancing Tryce Howard to put runners on the corners with two outs.  Cody Roddy cracked it open with a 2-RBI double. Kress scampered home on a wild pitch and the boys from Bridge City took a 3-0 lead.

New Mexico came back with a point to finish the frame 3-1.

Shugart, Blake Pruett and Chase Rutledge loaded the bases for Texas East in the top of the third. DR Slaughter replaced Pruett at second. Shugart was thrown out stealling home. But Kolton Bergerons singles up the middle to score Slaughter. Jonah Watts reached on a base hit and took advantage of New Mexico errors to score. Slaughter ripped one down the middle to score Rutledge and Texas-East enjoyed a 6-1 lead.

New Mexico managed a score in the bottom of the inning making it 6-2.

Shuggart’s third home run of the Southwest Regional championships came in the top of the fourth. But New Mexico answered with a home run in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-3.

New Mexico made the score 7-4 in the bottom of fifth as Shugart, at almost 80-pitches, was relieved by Roddy to retire the side.

New Mexico’s hope for a sixth inning rally was smashed by Texas-East who scored 6-runs in the top of the frame. Pruett racked an RBI double and Watts followed with an RBI single for a 9-4 lead. Corbin Voegeli’s RBI single and runs on errors increased the lead to 12-4. Roddy doubled to drive the score up 13-4.

In the end Roddy faced a defeated New Mexico and he shut the first three batters down to finish the contest.
