The Bridge City Little League 12-year old All-Star team were greeted by

the community and dignitaries in a welcome home ceremony Tuesday. The team

made big news throughout the area and nationwide as they cruised to the

Southwest Regional final as the Texas East State Champions.

The boys from Bridge City fell to Texas West, 6-4, ending a gallant run just one game away from the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. this weekend. The team was coached by Ronnie Shugart, Mike Taylor and Mark Watts.

If there were any lingering disappointment in the eventual loss it wasn’t evident on the beaming faces of the youngsters who signed autographs and were introduced through a procession formed by the Bridge City High School Strutter dance and drill team.

The history making season for the BCLL All-Stars was punctuated with huge wins in the Southwest Regional tournament. They defeated Arkansas 12-4, New Mexico 13-4 and Colorado 6-5 on their way to the single elimination final round against Texas West.

After achieving hometown and regional fame the Bridge City state champions were honored with a proclamation Tuesday night by the City of Bridge City prior to the the regular city council meeting. On Friday the Orange County Commissioners will also recognize the team in a special ceremony held at the Commissioners Court at 2 p.m.

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce is also planning a special tribute to the team during the upcoming Holiday Parade and Festival on Nov. 21.
