Fall Farmers’ Market Saturday
The first weekend of farmers’ market was a success. Mustard greens, okra and purple hull peas sold out by 7:30.
According to Jean Fregia, next week offerings will consist of okra, purple hull peas, black eye peas, yellow squash, cucumbers, eggplant and fresh yard eggs.
Jim Frazier said it might be two weeks before he has more mustard greens. There should be grapefruit and lemons available by then also. One vendor was selling his version of “Texas Caviar,” a fresh salsa made with black beans and black eyed peas, among other ingredients.
Blueberry juice and a wide variety of canned goods, jams and jellies will be available and Fregia’s cookies. “I’ll always have the oatmeal raisin cookies, but I’ll change up the other.” Next week she plans on baking Snicker doodles and bran muffins. “I had a request for them.”
This week there were also a couple of vendors with painted bottles, ponchos and other crafts.
Farmers will be back in front of Beall’s on MacArthur drive at 7 p.m., Saturday. The number of vendors should grow as the crops come in. Go early for the best selection.
