Floyd Lee Broomes Jr., 70, of Orange, passed away Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at Harbor Hospital in Orange.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9 at St. Francis Catholic Community on Meeks Drive in Orange.  Officiating will be the Rev. Tom Phelan, pastor of the church.  Rite of Committal will follow at the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum in Orange.  A gathering of family and friends for a time of reflection will be 5-9 p.m., Monday at Dorman Funeral Home in Orange with a Christian wake to be held at 6:30 p.m.  

Born on July 23, 1939 in Orange to parents, Floyd Lee Broomes Sr. and Ella (Guillory) Broomes, he was a lifelong resident of Orange. Floyd retired in 1994 from the DuPont Sabine River Works Plant in Orange as systems specialist with 35 years of service. He also worked for Dixie Glass in Orange as an outside sales representative for eight years.  

Floyd was a member of St. Francis Catholic Community where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time at the lake and teaching his kids to water ski. 

Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dwayne Broomes; those who will most cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Romero Broomes of Orange; daughter, Laurette Martin Brooks of Orange; sons, Joel Humberson of Tennessee Colony, Texas and Alec Broomes of Orange; sister, Donna Alexander and husband, Mike of Hemphill; brothers, Ray Broomes and wife, Donna and Hal Broomes and wife,Denise, all of Orange; sister-in-law, Rosemary Broomes of Orange; and his grandchildren, Crystal Broomes, Brandon Martin, Justin Martin, Samantha Humberson and Torin Marshall.
