She was born in La Feria, Texas on April 16, 1928 to parents, Harold Maurice Snapp and Jaime Leone (Poole) Snapp. She resided in the Rio Grande Valley (Brownsville and Harlingen) before moving to Orange 44 years ago with her husband and daughter. Frances worked various jobs until going to work for Orange Savings Bank for several years until her retirement. Coming from a farming family of grandparents and parents, she was used to large bountiful meals set upon the table which she continued in her home. She had a love for cooking and the Lord and found her niche at North Orange Baptist Church, cooking and feeding the congregation and also serving families at funerals. She had a talent for taking care of others and was often the nursemaid.
Full of spunk, laughter and a smile, she was a delight to those who knew her. Those close to her knew that she was a doting grandmother and her grandsons were the loves of her life. To her daughter, she was the perfect mom and best friend.
Frances is preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Maurice Duke; and her husband of 40 years, J.B. (Jay) Duke.
Those who will most cherish her memory are her daughter, Edna Wilkerson and husband, James of Orange; her grandsons, Wayne Jay Wilkerson of Orange and Chad David Wilkerson and wife, Allison of Dallas. Frances is also survived by her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and her nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the services will be Gerald Sears, Louis Willie, Yankee Mortimer, Billy Smith, Walter Cox, Mitty Bonner and Larry Barfoot.
