Bridge City basketball standout Nate McAnelly committed Tuesday to attend Houston’s University of St. Thomas on a dual athletic-academic scholarship, Tony Knight, BCHS head boys basketball coach announced.

McAnelly will be in the BCHS library at 10 a.m. Friday for the signing, along with friends and officials from both schools. McAnelly was named SETX Basketball Association Player of the Year for the “Swingman” position, named District 21-3A Offensive Most Valuable Player and Cardinal Varsity MVP.
In his senior year, he averaged 18 points, 13 rebounds, four blocks and three steals per game. He is the only Cardinal basketball player to start all 32 games of a season.

Other college teams seeking McAnelly’s talents included Culver-Stockton in Missouri, Schriener in Kerrville, Centenary in Shreveport, La., LeTourneau in Longview, the University of Texas at Tyler and Lamar State College-Port Arthur.
