Accidental drowning claims 2-year-old
A 2-year-old drowned in his grandparents’ pool in Orangefield Saturday at approximately 6:30 p.m. according to Sgt. Chad Hogan of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
The children’s grandmother, who was watching the children ages 8, 5, and 2 while their parents were out of town, told officers the kids were playing inside the house. She had gone into her room for a few minutes. When she came out, the boys were not in the house. She ran into the garage and found the 5 year old child. She asked him where the baby was. He told her that he was by the pool. She ran into the backyard where their in-ground pool is located.
Once she approached the pool she could see the baby at the bottom of the deep end of the pool. She immediately dove into the pool and retrieved the baby. She began performing CPR on the baby and calling 911. When deputies arrived, first responders from the Mauriceville Fire Department and medics from Acadian Ambulance were on scene performing CPR on a small child. The baby, identified as Keldon Gene Hardy of Mauriceville was transferred to Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital where he was pronounced deceased on arrival.
“The Orange County Sheriff’s Office would like to extend our condolences to the Hardy family during this tragic loss,” said Hogan in a release.
