Plans underway for Round II Ike funding
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development recently approved the state of Texas’ revised plan for $1.7 billion in Round II Hurricane Ike funding.
The revised plan allocates $317,492,059 to the Southeast Texas region for non-housing and housing projects.
The Method of Distribution (MOD) model will be geared more to low and moderate income housing. The MOD model will eventually be submitted by the Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission to the Texas Department of Rural Affairs with a target date of Aug. 31.
To be eligible, communities must prove three things: that they serve low to moderate incomes of 51 percent; damage is storm-related or because of storm-related failure of infrastructure; and that funds affirmatively further fair housing.
For an application, drop by the Regional Planning Commission offices in Beaumont, 2210 Eastex Frwy; or go to www.setrpc.org.
Public hearings are set in the RPC offices at 1:30 p.m. July 27. The first MOD model for public reading and input/feedback is expected to be on the commission’s Web site by Aug. 5.
