Caroline Tarver, 85, of Orange passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Dorman Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memory Gardens near Bridge City.
She was a native of Brooklyn, New York; born on Aug. 28, 1924 to parents Matteo Mannelli and Blanche Pastore Mannelli. She lived in the Orange area for over 45 years. She loved to stay active; cooking for her family, crocheting, playing gin rummy with her granddaughter, playing the piano, making homemade jellies/crafts and she loved to go dancing every week. She was a very kind and giving person; who enjoyed making people laugh and talking to friends in Italian. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Tarver was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Matteo and Blanche Mannelli; her husband of 41 years, Elbert “Cotton” Tarver; brothers, Nicholas Mannelli, Ulderico Mannelli; and sister, Tina Mannarino.
To cherish her memory are her daughters, Judy Choate-Rumby and husband Russell, Rena Choate, Jackie Spears and husband Jack, all of Orange; sons, John R. Ardoin and wife Marilyn and Allen Tarver all of Orange; stepdaughter, Sherry McGraw and husband Tommy of Leander, Texas; sisters, Mary Petrone and husband Carl of Delanson, N.Y.; Nina DeStefano, Blanche Santacroce and husband Joe, all of Long Island, N.Y., Josephine Zambuto of Levittown, N.Y.; brother, Matthew Destefano and wife Betty of Long Island, N.Y.; brother-in-law Donald Tarver and wife Rose; and sister-in-law Marie Tarver.
Also surviving her are 13 grandchildren, Aimee Tait and husband John, Bryan Weickersheimer and wife Krista, Felicia Todd, Robert Choate, Jennifer Todd, Kaycee Spears, John R. Ardoin and wife Savannah, James Ardoin and wife Michelle, Joseph Ardoin, Carolina Ardoin, Chris Ochoa, Monica Vega, T.J. McGraw; 16 great-grandchildren, Wesley Weickersheimer, Connor and Brycen Tait, Skylar Ardoin, Jeremiah Ardoin, Kane and Devin Jones, Kimberly Todd, Billy and Jessie Jones, Brendon Choate, Melissa and Angelica Castro, Sebastian Vega, Julian Cecil and Lane Ochoa and two great-grandchildren, Cindy Todd and Jenlyn Jones
