Record writer Hankins dies from heart attack
The Record Newspapers has lost one of its own. Robert Hankins, 48, passed away Saturday night due to a massive heart attack at his home in Lake Charles. Found by his wife of four years, Martha, Robert passed away in his chair while watching TV.
Hankins has worked not only at The Record, but also spent time at the Orange Leader, Beaumont Enterprise, American Press in Lake Charles and occasionally submitted articles to Lagniappe. Hankins was an award winning writer and editor, who also frequently penned quirky, humorous columns on his observations of life.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home in Lake Charles located at 4321 Lake Street. Visitation is 2-8 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday.
