who want to report a pothole on Texas highways can now get a message

directly to the agency that’s responsible for pavement upkeep.

The Texas

Department of Transportation launched the reporting system as part of a

broader plan to communicate better with residents, said transportation

department executive director Amadeo Saenz. “It’s like an extension of

our maintenance forces,” he said.

There are two ways to report a pothole:

  1. Call 888-885-8248. Operators will answer calls 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    weekdays. Voice mails left after hours will be returned the next

    business day, officials said.

  2. Visit, click on “report a pothole” at the home page and fill out an online form.

The new reporting system is easier for most people to use,

spokeswoman Cynthia Northrop White said. In the past, residents who

wanted to report a pothole often weren’t sure which office to call. Now

the information is collected statewide, through one phone number and one

website. “It’s more of a holistic system we all have access to,” she
